Information for Tandem Students
Things to know before your first hang gliding or paragliding tandem flight.
- The United States Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association, Inc. (USHPA) works to further free flight in the United States and provides training and certification programs for instructors and pilots.
- Your tandem instructor is required to provide you with instructional materials before a tandem flight, in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements.
- We do not provide medical or accident insurance coverage. You must have your own health insurance coverage that does not exclude extreme sports in order to have medical coverage in the event of a mishap. If you do not have this coverage, you should not fly.
- You must become a member of USHPA before the flight. Your instructor will assist you with a 10-day Temporary, 60-day Student, or annual Pilot membership. Learn more about our membership levels here.
- You must sign a liability waiver before the flight. The waiver is included in our membership registration process. Please verify that this document is completely filled out, and read it carefully before signing.
- Before or after the flight please review the Free Flight Pilot Ground School Training Manual.
- Contact your instructor with any questions.
Welcome to free flight!
