Competition

USHPA is the only authorized affiliate of the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) that represents the sports of hang gliding, paragliding, and speed flying in the US. As such, USHPA is authorized to formulate and establish official competition rules and to sanction hang gliding, paragliding, and speed flying events in the US.

The NAA is the US representative of the Federation Aèronautique Internationale (FAI). The FAI is the worldwide governing body for all sport aviation and the Commission Internationale de Vol Libre (CIVL) is the division of the FAI that represents hang gliding and paragliding around the world.

Things to know before traveling outside the US for competitions.
Please understand the host country's regulations and competition rules before participating!

Many countries require insurance that exceeds the standard $500K/$500K USHPA member limit.
Please review your insurance needs and apply for longer trip coverage, increased limits and/or territory extensions (limited to H3+/P3+ pilots).
Make sure your medical coverage extends outside of the US. If not, take the appropriate steps to obtain coverage.
Your USHPA member card provides your IPPI equivalency rating; please have a copy available.
Have a satellite tracking device with an active subscription, and make sure your friends know your public page.
If your competition requires an FAI Sporting License, please apply via the NAA. USHPA does not issue FAI Sporting Licenses.
