With flying season upon us it is time to refresh our focus on safety, and in doing so - ensuring many more flights in the future.

Pomic/UHGPGA Mentor Program #1 - Ground Handling Refresher

  • When: Saturday, April 16th at 8:00 AM
  • Where: Point of the Mountain South Side Flight Park - Lehi, Utah
  • Details: Bill Heaner will be hosting the 1st installment of the POMIC/UHGPGA Mentorship Program. All UHGPGA members are invited to attend the spring ground handling refresher seminar. This is a great time to brush up on high wind technique and join a discussion on general risk reducing strategies for flying on the south side.  There will be multiple POMIC instructors available for the ground-handling seminar to assist, so bring your wings and questions and let’s make this the best season ever!

BAPA Safety Day

  • When: Sunday, April 24 at 3:30 PM
  • Where: SF Brightworks, 1960 Bryant St., San Francisco CA 94110
  • Details: Join us for our first BAPA Safety Day. We will have multiple activity stations set up all over Brightworks, followed by some informative discussions on how to keep yourself safe while flying. Joining us will be arguably the three top pilots in the US: Nick Greece, Josh Cohn, and Eric Reed. 

    Stations will include:
    - Hang simulator to practice awkward deployment configurations
    - Gear inspection and preparation - including mental preparation and speed bar adjustment checking
    - Review of the Risk Tools produced by CIVL (the international commission for hang gliding and paragliding) - a decision matrix for assessing your choices

    Discussions will include:
    - Videos of various events with expert analysis of what happened
    - Flash Cards of the most common accidents and how to avoid them
    - Answers to your questions about how to stay safe while flying

    But wait, there's more!
    - A raffle of various flight-related swag
    - Food, provided by BAPA
